1988–1991: Septic Conversion

Runyan Lake Inc. initiated the sewer system project to replace failing septic tanks. By 1991, all properties around the lake were connected to a common holding tank system, protecting groundwater and improving water quality.

2003: System Upgrade

The original holding tank system was upgraded to a grinder pump system, providing greater reliability and capacity. This upgrade ensured the system could handle increased usage and future growth.

2003–Present: Regional Integration

Runyan Lake Inc. joined the Livingston Regional Sewer System, connecting to the Tyrone Township infrastructure. This integration provided long‑term sustainability and shared resources with neighboring communities.

Holding Tanks

Each property is connected to a holding tank that collects wastewater. These tanks prevent direct discharge into the lake and groundwater, ensuring environmental protection.

Grinder Pumps

Wastewater flows from the holding tanks into grinder pumps. These pumps break down solids and move the wastewater efficiently through the sewer lines to the regional system.

Reserve Capacity

The system was designed with reserve capacity to handle peak usage and future growth. This ensures reliability during holidays, summer weekends, and long‑term community expansion.

Regional System Connection

All wastewater is ultimately conveyed to the Livingston Regional Sewer System. This shared infrastructure provides professional maintenance, long‑term sustainability, and compliance with township regulations.

2003: Grinder Pump Conversion

The original holding tank system was upgraded to grinder pumps, improving reliability and reducing maintenance issues. This conversion allowed the system to handle higher usage and ensured long‑term sustainability.

Regional Integration

Runyan Lake Inc. connected to the Livingston Regional Sewer System, providing access to township infrastructure and professional maintenance. This integration strengthened compliance and shared resources with neighboring communities.

Capacity & Equipment Improvements

Over the years, pumps and equipment have been replaced or upgraded to meet demand and extend service life. These proactive updates minimize downtime and keep the system efficient.

Coverage Areas

The Livingston Regional Sewer System serves Runyan Lake, Runyan Lake Heights, Runyan Lake Point, and properties along Runyan Lake Road. This shared infrastructure ensures consistent service across the community.

Residential Equivalent Units (REUs)

Sewer fees are based on REUs, which represent the average wastewater generated by a single household. Larger homes or multi‑unit properties may be assigned more than one REU to reflect usage.

Financial Notes

Quarterly Operation & Maintenance (O&M) fees are billed through Tyrone Township. These fees cover system upkeep, pump replacement, and regional service costs. Runyan Lake Inc. trustees monitor rates to ensure fairness and sustainability.

Long‑Term Sustainability

Integration with the regional system provides professional maintenance, compliance with township ordinances, and reliable service for decades to come. This partnership protects both the lake and the surrounding community.
